The elementary social studies curriculum promotes students’ understanding of their families, school, community, state, country and world as they become aware of their roles as responsible citizens.
The curriculum provides age-appropriate historical, civic, cultural, geographic and economic knowledge. Activities integrate reading, writing and research skills and help students become independent learners. Teachers use textbooks and other instructional materials that are adopted countywide and supplement them with resources available in the schools and on the web.
